The Morning Show Sep 30 – Oct 4

Nearly October, my how time flies.  For those who question RadioMonterey’s ability to thrive as an internet-only operation (if that ever happens), here’s an interesting article http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/charleston/local-internet-radio-station-kinetic-hifi-is-returning-radio-to-its-roots/Content?oid=4738747.

Don’t forget to become a facebook RadioMonterey friend at www.facebook.com/groups/152169051511789/ or simply type fivefortyfriend into your Facebook search bar.

Here’s what’s on tap on the RadioMonterey Morning Show this week and do expect last-minute additions as always.  I will post changes as they become known and also tweet them @RadioMonterey.

The problem my dear Hal, is that the original expressed intent of your station was not to become a small-scale niche broadcaster, but instead to become a broadcaster that exposes THE MASSES to ideas less influenced by corporate commercial interests. That, plus the fact that the base demographic to which you initially appeal is the 50+ non-tech savvy crowd, & it becomes clear that like Cumulus and Clear Channel, you need both venues to be successful (by your own standards). Is the station really generating that much less revenue now that you are dedicating less of your time to it & letting Michelle handle more of your marketing?

Wireless communication channels are becoming a scarce commodity that corporate interests are increasingly willing to pay dearly for. I know it is disconcerting to you that it (currently) appears you bought the station “high”, but I am convinced you are about to make the even more serious error of “selling low”. While holding your own (not losing money), you are sitting upon the license to a huge block of valuable wireless spectrum that is essentially being wasted by a legacy analog broadcasting format. Last time I checked, God wasn’t making any more wireless communication bandwidth. At some point in the future, I expect others will pay to digitize the station’s current terrestrial spectrum in exchange for their ability to utilize some of the station’s current bandwidth. Until that time comes, you might consider adding a donate button, as I suspect a few like myself would be willing to add you to the list of media outlets we already support.

    Subject: Covered CA/ACA question

    Hi Mr. Welch,

Thank you for contacting our office with your question regarding how returning to residency status in the US would affect the CoveredCA enrollment period you would be subject to. Although I’m not sure I can answer your question definitively, I’m happy to try, and also to refer you to the folks who can.

For 2013-14, the CoveredCA open enrollment period will be October 1, 2013-March 31, 2014. In future years, the open enrollment period will be significantly shorter- October 1-early December. However, similar to the insurance offered through employers, there are qualifying events that trigger an enrollment period outside of open enrollment, including having a baby, getting married, losing your employer sponsored coverage, etc. I assume that becoming a legal resident would be considered a qualifying event that would open a two month enrollment period in which you could sign up.

For confirmation, please call CoveredCA: 800-300-1506.

Again, thanks for your question. If you have any trouble getting the definitive answer from CoveredCA, please don’t hesitate to call us.
