One Response to The Morning Show May 2 – 6

  1. Tina Burgess says:

I snagged this post from someone who wrote into the Ed Schultz Show. Everything she wrote is how I am feeling at the moment:

My reaction to the death of bin Laden?

At first, there was great relief that this figurehead was eliminated.

Then, celebrating the justice long awaited.

Then shame for reveling in the death of any human being. I remember how disgusted I was by those in the Mid-East for celebrating deaths of Americans who they believed to be evil. And now such celebrations are happening around the world for the death of bin Laden.

While I am at odds with my spiritual beliefs, I will not fault others for their reaction, as those are personal expressions combined in the pride of our Nation and our Brave Men & Women in Uniform.

I am proud that this operation was done professionally and that the remains were treated with respect according to Islamic law. (The only change being that he was buried at sea instead of on land.)

I cannot ignore, nor do I wish to, the thousands that have died because of this man’s actions. The wars that have been started in the name of capturing him. (Politicians have used this as a campaign issue on both sides.) But the military kept their eye on the ball and were resolute in not allowing him to plan another attack on our country. They serve our country Honorably.

While my feelings are mixed on my own reaction to bin Laden’s death, I am unequivocal in my pride in our Armed Services for all of their sacrifice and for the Seals, CIA, and all that completed the mission.

bin Laden was a monster who made himself out to be right with God. Now, he will see. But here on Earth, he will be a martyr for those who followed him. Terrorism continues and we must be alert. This will not signal the crumbling of Al Qaeda. There have been splinter groups working without bin Laden for a decade. They will use his death to rally their followers.

So a breath that has been held for nearly a decade has been released. There is still much to be done to keep our Nation safe from terrorism. And so, I inhale again.
